Donna Giglotti and Glenn Weiss Will Produce the 91st Oscars

The job of producing the Oscars might not just be toughest job in Hollywood. It might also be the most difficult. However, the role has the ability to shape iconic moments in pop culture history. From the “La La Land” and “Moonlight” fiasco, to Roberto Beginini or Viola Davis’ 2017 speech, they can help to shape the narrative of the evening. Now, we’ve finally discovered who will be producing this year’s Oscar telecast, and the results should excite most audiences.

According to a press release, Donna Giglotti and Glenn Weiss will be the two big names behind the show this year. Giglotti has been behind the production of many great films over the years, including “Shapespeare in Love,” “Hidden Figures,” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” all of which undeniably count as crowd pleasers. She could deliver another crowd pleaser to mass audiences the night of the Oscars.

Weiss already owns his own distinct corner of pop culture history associated with the Oscars and televised awards. Earlier this year, after winning his Emmy for directing last year’s Oscars, he proposed to his girlfriend on national television. He directed the show last year and will direct this one as well. He can clearly plan big moments that feel organic, which will be needed to help sell the craft winners who get pushed to edited segments.

Giglotti and Weiss have a fair amount of pressure for this years Oscars. They clearly have pressure to keep the telecast under 3 hours, yet still deliver an entertaining show. They will also handle the Most Popular Film category outcry. It’s going to be a crazy night, but Giglotti and Weiss feel like a good combo. Now the film world will wait with baited breath for who will host the show.

What do you think of the producers of the show? What are some things you’d like to see them incorporate into the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

The 91st Academy Awards will occur on Feb. 24, 2018. ABC will air the awards.

What do you think?
