DreamWorks Animation signs new deal with Fox

Looks like the studio that brought us Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon has found a new home. Variety is reporting that DreamWorks Animation will be signing a new distribution deal with Fox. The deal, which will run from 2013-2017, is said to include some of the same terms DWA had with Paramount, namely allowing Fox to take an 8 percent fee in traditional markets, including worldwide theatrical, home video and international television. Studio head Jeffrey Katzenberg was said to have been looking to sign a deal before Labor Day and with a studio that would distrribute DWA content on mutiple platforms, which Fox should be able to do.

Often the Oscar bridesmaid since the Shrek and Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit wins, DreamWorks Animation will look to continue on the quality films they’ve released recently with the following projects (via The Hollywood Reporter):

The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons and singer-actress Rihanna are the lead voices in Happy Smekday!, a DreamWorks Animation adaptation of the award-winning book The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam RexTim Johnson, who co-directed DWA’s Antz and Over the Hedge, is solo in the helmer’s chair for Smekday!, which the studio hopes to release during the fourth quarter of 2014.

Turbo: Ryan Reynolds and a slew of others star in this tale of a garden snail (Reynolds) with dreams of racing greatness. This film was originally set to be released July 19, 2013.

The Book of Mormon star Josh GadSaturday Night Live’s Bill Hader and Kate Hudson have signed to star as the voice cast of Me & My ShadowAlessandro Carloni, who served as head of story on DWA’s Oscar-nominated How to Train Your Dragon, will make his directorial debut on the movie, produced by Melissa Cobb (Kung Fu Panda 2).
