As James Cameron’s relentless efforts to return to Pandora take shape, new cast members continue to join the director’s ventures. The latest addition to his forthcoming “Avatar” sequels is Edie Falco. The Emmy-winning actress is officially part of Cameron’s universe, though it’s unclear for how many installments.
Falco will star as General Ardmore, who is tasked with protecting the Resources Development Administration’s (RDA) businesses. If you’ve forgotten, in the “Avatar” world this is the government agency in charge of mining resources from other planets like Pandora for Earth’s benefit.
Cameron made the announcement via Twitter in a post that read, “Edie Falco is one of the greats – I can’t wait to watch her kick some ass on the big screen.” This news follows the recent addition of Kate Winslet, and confirmation that the original stars: Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, and Zoe Saldana, will return for the new chapters.
The director plans to release fours sequels to the 2009 box-office smash over the next three years. The second installment in his is currently scheduled for Dec. 18, 2020. “Avatar 3” will see the light in 2021, “Avatar 4” in 2024, and “Avatar 5” will conclude the saga in 2025.
With such an ambitious universe in the making, more actors will certainly be added to the mix in the near future. It’s been a decade since the release of the original, which garnered nine Academy Award nominations, and won Best Art Direction, Cinematography, and Visual Effects. Only time will tell if the chapter will warrant such a warm reception.
Falco recently appeared in Lynn Shelton’s complex drama “Outside In” opposite Jay Duplass, as well as the Netflix Original Film “The Land of Steady Habits” from director Nicole Holofcener.
