It’s days like today that I really miss Celebrity Deathmatch on MTV; this casting news would have been the perfect setup for having Marvel and Fox duke it out. Today, Bryan Singer took to Twitter to announce that Evan Peters (American Horror Story) would be playing Quicksilver in the next film in the X-Men franchise. If the character name sounds familiar it might be because rumors have been swirling about that Quicksilver would make an appearance in the sequel to Marvel’s The Avengers.
While the news about Peters being cast is definitely big (he’s a good actor), the real story here is with regards to Fox scooping Marvel on using a character. Though both studios share the rights to Quicksilver it will be interesting to see if Marvel continues to use the character. Given the amazing box office for Avengers, I don’t think they will back down to Fox.
Peters will join the incredible cast that includes Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing and Boo Boo Stewart. The film will be released on July 18, 2014.
