According to The Hollywood Reporter, the stage version of the Emmy Award winning comedy “Fleabag” written and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge is heading to Amazon for two days starting April 10. The stream will attempt to raise money for frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as struggling freelancers.

Waller-Bridge first performed a version of the one-woman play in Edinburgh back in 2013 and revived the play after the success of the show last year. It’s also reported that Soho Theatre’s streaming website will show the performance for the UK “from April 6 and then be on the same site from April 10 in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.”

Included in The Hollywood Reporter’s article is the following quote from Waller-Bridge:

“I hope this filmed performance of Fleabag can help raise money while providing a little theatrical entertainment in these isolated times. Thank you to all our partners and to the creative team who have waived their royalties from this production to raise money for such vital causes in this unbelievably challenging situation. All money raised will support the people throughout our society who are fighting for us on the frontlines and those financially devastated by the crisis, including those in the theatre community. Thank you in advance to those who donate. Now go get into bed with Fleabag! It’s for charity!”

Details on where the donated money will be given is also included in Abid Rahman’s article for The Hollywood Reporter, stating that “all proceeds, less tax and fees, will be distributed to U.K. charities including The National Emergencies Trust, NHS Charities Together and Acting for Others, as well as the newly launched Fleabag Support Fund.” The COVID-19 pandemic is having a devastating impact on countries everywhere and its a fantastic idea from all involved to bring the “Fleabag” play to audiences while raising vital money.

Waller-Bridge has become a British superstar in the last few years for her creations of both “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve” with both resonating with audiences around the world. She won three Emmy Awards last year, including Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her performance.

The UK’s National Theatre has begun streaming theatrical productions every Thursday, which started with “One Man, Two Guvnors” last week, a hilarious farcical comedy that won James Corden the Tony Award for Best Actor. This week’s play will be “Jane Eyre.”

“Fleabag” will begin streaming on Amazon April 10 in the US and UK for $5 or £4.
