Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday but beginning on Monday, we’re back to the Oscar race. Campaigns are in full swing, luncheons are happening daily on both coasts, and the precursor awards will start delivering starting with the Satellite Award nominations followed by New York Film Critics Circle and National Board of Review following. Voting for the Directors Guild of America opens on Tuesday as well. This is the time to start getting our favorite films and performances their big pushes, praying that enough voting bodies read these little sites and discover something they wouldn’t have normally.
This entire week, I’ll be bringing you five special films, performances, and other technical aspects each day, that voting bodies should consider during these last weeks of voting. 2013 was a historic year, at least by count. I reintroduced the series a few days ago citing the towering work of Julianne Nicholson‘s work in August: Osage County for Best Supporting Actress.
So far I’ve given out a record nine four star reviews, and still have many more to watch over the next two weeks. While many, including myself, think Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave is poised to make Oscar history, this isn’t the type of year where a film should dominate the circuit, winning award after award. The wealth should be spread to all different genres of films, including performers.
