‘Godzilla’ is Back…Watch Him Road in the First Trailer!

The new film will hit theaters in 2014…

680x478I don’t think anyone was particularly clamoring for a reboot of Godzilla in the post Cloverfield age (especially when Pacific Rim was promising to basically turbocharge the formula this summer) we live in now, but the one thing that had me intrigued was the selection of Monsters filmmaker Gareth Edwards for the director’s chair. That flick was a micro budgeted monster movie that showed how creative he could be without just throwing money at the screen. Now, Edwards is in blockbuster territory (with a script that includes work done by the heavyweight likes of Frank Darabont, David Goyer, and Drew Pearce, among others as well) but seems to have kept his gritty esthetic in place for this film, which I find to be promising. The first trailer for the movie dropped earlier today, so it can be seen below (and I basically dug it, though it honestly is basically an extended teaser), and it features a rather eclectic cast that includes Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, and Sally Hawkins, plus many more. We’ll find out if this is a successful restart to the franchise or not in May of next year when Godzilla opens, but for now…behold the return of the big guy:

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

this is one of the more visually impressive trailers I’ve seen in a while, which hopefully bodes well for the movie itself

I expected to start this comment with “Call me crazy, but this actually looks kind of good.”, but it’s nice to see that others like it too.

Can’t be any worse than the last Godzilla film. Plus, Bryan Cranston is in it, which is instant win.
