Golden Globes 2019 Final Predictions: Opportunity for a Major Impact as Critics Choice Deadline Looms

The Golden Globes will announce their nominees on Thursday where we expect some big names and films to make a play.  In traditional Globes fashion, we are also expecting them to chase the stars and invite them to a party they have no right in attending (i.e. “The Tourist” years ago).

You can see all the alternates, commentary, and history on The Circuit Hub but I’ll use this space for a collective offering of the predicted nominees.

In addition, final ballots for the Critics Choice (Broadcast Film Critics Association), New York Film Critics Online, African-American Film Critics, and Black Reel Awards, associations in which I am a member, will have us turn in our ballots on Friday. More so than ever, screeners have flooded in and this remains “crunch time” and getting in those last minute docs or foreign films that may make a surprise entry somewhere, while also getting to some of those “big contenders” that we have to see before filling it out.  Warner Bros. has shared with the BFCA community that it will NOT screen “The Mule” from Clint Eastwood and is more of a box office play than anything. We will also not see “Welcome to Marwen” from Robert Zemeckis or the action films “Aquaman” or “Bumblebee” before we turn everything in.  I’m personally bummed I won’t be able to weigh in on “Holmes and Watson” – as I was fully ready to vote for Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in all the comedy categories I could, as that film is looking like something up my laughing alley.
