Deadline reports that BBC Studios have announced that a TV Series following environmental activist Greta Thunberg is underway. The series is expected to follow her on the campaign trail, as well as documenting the 17-year-old’s journey into adulthood.

The project was announced at BBC’s event in Liverpool, showcasing the upcoming projects from the studios. There is no news yet on the number of episodes that will feature in the documentary series, or indeed what broadcaster the show will be on.

The following quote from Executive Producer Rob Liddell was published by Deadline:

“To be able to do this with Greta is an extraordinary privilege, getting an inside view on what it’s like being a global icon.”

It’s expected that whilst the series will include a lot of science and experts discussing the mission that Thunberg is on, it will also focus on her as a growing adult, aiming to explore her personality in a different light and how she has dealt with her rise to international fame.

At just 17-years-old, Thunberg has become one of the most influential activists in regards to climate change, often given a powerful platform at meetings in front of world leaders and the highest figures in politics. She has split opinion across the planet, with some hailing her as a hero whilst others very critical of showing such passion at a young age. Either way, there is no denying the influence that Thunberg now has, with the Swedish teenager even winning TIME Person of the Year for 2019.

BBC Studios, however, is not the first to be documenting Thunberg for a series. Streaming service Hulu also has something in the works regarding Thunberg, with Variety recently reporting that London-based documentary distributor Dogwoof have boarded the series. Dogwoof most recently distributed the Academy Award nominated “The Cave.”

The upcoming Hulu series has no further news on their project, others than the working title of “Greta.” They have, however, already begun documenting some of Thunberg’s recent rallies. How the BBC Studios series and the Hulu series will differ in style or substance remains unknown.

There is no date on when production from BBC Studios is expected to begin.
