Our favorite badass Rene Russo celebrates her 66th birthday today and appropriately, we are highlighting all the qualities that make her so vividly talented.
With a career that has spanned over four decades, Russo has not gained all the notoriety she so richly deserves. Her only awards bout was in 2014 when she nearly made the cut for husband Dan Gilroy’s psychological thriller “Nightcrawler” as a morally corrupt news producer. She received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress for just missing the mark for the Academy Award nomination. Our own readership of AwardsCircuit.com also cited her in our own AwardsCircuit Community Awards the same year. In both ceremonies, she lost out to Patricia Arquette for “Boyhood.”
Looking over her filmography, there’s been more noteworthy performances over her career. Personally touched by her role as a mother desperate to find her kidnapped son in Ron Howard’s underrated “Ransom,” we think she should have made the cut in 1996, the same year she charmed many opposite Kevin Costner in Ron Shelton’s “Tin Cup.”
Russo has also stole scenes in films like “Get Shorty,” “Outbreak,” and “In the Line of Fire.” We also can’t resist her beating up some bad guys opposite Mel Gibson in the “Lethal Weapon” franchise, rumored to be returning for a fifth installment in the near future.
Down below, please vote in our new CIRCUIT POLL on which performance of Rene Russo’s is her best. If there’s one that is better than the one listed, use the “other” line and insert your answer.
