2. Alex Forrest, Fatal Attraction
The terrifying thing about Fatal Attraction, and particularly Glenn Close’s performance as Alex, is that it is plausible. The idea of the scorned lover turning completely psychotic is something we read about in the news from time to time. It actually happens. In film, though, when women are often depicted as the more demure, moral victims of violence rather than the instigators of it, this film gives us a different spin and gives us a villain that is all the more scary and unpredictable. Of course, you know this was written and directed by men, though. What woman would tell a story that actually makes you feel sorry for the cheating bastard of a husband?
