Idris Elba’s star has really been rising in Hollywood lately. After turning in years of good work on TV shows like The Wire and BBC’s Luther, he’s finally getting noticed by major Hollywood studios. The actor is currently in talks to join Sean Penn and Javier Bardem in the film Gunman, which is centered around an international operative (Penn) who is betrayed by the organization he works for, forcing him into a game of cat and mouse across Europe. Elba would play a mysterious operative named Dupont.
Elba has been a solid presence in the industry and it’s good to see a hard working actor’s work pay off. Not much is known about the role, but the film is an adaptation of the novel Prone Gunman by Jean-Patrick Manchette and will be directed by Pierre Morel. The movie is being financed by Studio Canal, who may have eyes on making this a franchise, and will begin shooting Barcelona later this month.
