IFC Films Offers Library of Curated Programs in U.S. Theaters May 29

IFC Films announced the Indie Theater Revival Project, an initiative to support its partner theaters as they get ready to reopen to the public in the coming weeks and months. The program includes a selection from the IFC archives as a way to fulfill screenings amid the absence of new releases.

While the coronavirus pandemic puts public gatherings on hold, the independent distributor looks to alleviate venues and offer selections of its award-winning library of independent titles. The selections will be available in theaters across the United States starting on May 29. The press release Tuesday details no rental fees and theaters can book any of the programs any time through the first month of reopening.

“Blue is the Warmest Color,” from IFC Films

“Independent theaters across the country have been essential partners for us at IFC Films, and we would not be where we are today without their support,” the company announced in a statement. “We wanted to take the first step and let theaters know that we are committed to helping them reopen their doors by providing a selection of films to program while the new release landscape gets back to normal.”

The distributor is offering a total of 20 curated retrospective programs, some that will also be presented at IFC Center, IFC Films’ cinema in New York City, when it reopens. A complete lineup of selected films will be available in the coming weeks. For now, IFC Films has released the first three program selections. The programs include “The Wind That Shakes The Barley,” “The Babadook” and “Antichrist.”

This year, IFC Films celebrates 20 years of independent film in bringing these curated selections to theaters.  Upcoming feature releases from IFC include Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “The Truth” and Shannon Murphy’s Cannes-competing “Babyteeth.”
