Jake Gyllenhaal has another physical transformation on display in new image from ‘Southpaw’

deadline jake gyllenhaal

deadline-jake-gyllenhaalIt’s becoming almost an expected part of the process whenever Jake Gyllenhaal takes on a new role, seeing him transform his body in often startling ways.

Over at Deadline, they’ve got an exclusive first look (watermarked and everything, as you’ll notice) at the new look Gyllenhaal is sporting for his upcoming boxing flick Southpaw, and we’ve got it for you here as well. Gyllenhaal stars in this Antoine Fuqua directed and Kurt Sutter scripted story of a boxer rising to the top professionally while everything else around him is crumbling. Impressively, this could just be one of Gyllenhaal’s transformations (on the heels of him looking super unsettling in Nightcrawler), with the adventure tale Everest and also the drama Demolition coming next year as well. It’s an exciting time to be someone who admires his work. Below you can see a much bigger image of Gyllenhaal looking like an absolute animal in Southpaw, but this is one that we might have to pay a little more attention to, especially since Oscar loves boxing. Personally, I have a gut feeling that Demolition could really be his ticket to another Academy Award nomination, but we shall see. Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker costar with Gyllenhaal in Southpaw.

Take a look at him below and stay tuned for more.

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

I’m getting the feeling that he is just building and building towards an eventual win at this point. He’s gained a lot of fans over the past few years.

Good luck to him. As a fan, it has been awful to see him continually snubbed for tremendous work.
