Jeff Bridges to Receive the Cecil B. Demille Award at Golden Globes

Jeff Bridges has one of the most storied careers in Hollywood history. The actor, known for his gruff performances in recent years, received his first credits on “Sea Hunt” in 1958. In the sixty years since Bridges became an Oscar-winning actor, a legendary character actor, and The Dude. He received his first Oscar nomination for “The Last Picture Show” in 1971. The Golden Globes would hand him his first nomination in 1985 for “Starman” from John Carpenter. Now, the Globes are recognizing Bridges’ incredible career, with Bridges selected to be the latest recipient of the Cecil B. Demille Award.

The Cecil B. Demille Award is an honorary award from the Globes to acknowledge “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” The previous three winners have been Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey. The actor has been active on many issues over the course of his career. Yet this is undeniably a career achievement for Bridges, whose performances speak for themselves.

For most modern audiences, their recognition of Bridges began with “The Big Lebowski,” with Bridges playing The Dude in the cult film. For some Disney kids, “Tron” and the subsequent “Tron: Legacy” may be a cultural touchpoint, especially because the first film made video games cool on the big screen. However, the actor became an awards magnet over the past decade. He won his Oscar for “Crazy Heartin 2009. He then immediately picked up another nomination the next year for “True Grit” from the Coen Brothers. His last Oscar nomination came for “Hell or High Water” in 2016. With the acceptance of his cult personality and embracing of his ability as an actor has changed the dialogue on the long-time leading man.  Now, Bridges will receive his due on the national stage.
