Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon to Collab For New TV Series

Jennifer Aniston (“Friends”) and Reese Witherspoon (“Big Little Lies”) are pairing up for a new TV series, according to Variety. No official title has been released, but the series will reportedly be about a New York morning talk show. Jay Carson (“House of Cards”) will be writing the script, with Steve Kloves (“Harry Potter” series) coming on as executive producer along with Aniston. Witherspoon will produce via her Hello Sunshine production company and Lauren Levy Neustadter; the series will be coming from Media Res, a new production company founded by Michael Ellenberg. The show will begin searching for a home network or streaming platform over the next few weeks.

The pair first worked together on Aniston’s breakout show “Friends,” where Witherspoon guest-starred as Aniston’s younger sister. After “Friends” ended back in 2004, the Hollywood starlet left the TV world to do various films, including “Cake,” for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. She most recently appeared in the drama “The Yellow Birds,” which won the Cinematography Award at Sundance. Aniston recently professed a desire to return to television in a January interview with Variety, saying, “I’ve thought about it a lot. That’s where the work is. That’s where the quality is. At this point in my career, I want to be part of wonderful stories, exciting characters, and also just having a good time.”

Witherspoon recently made the jump to TV herself, producing and starring in “Big Little Lies” on HBO. The TV mini-series is an adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name. She stars alongside fellow producer Nicole Kidman (“The Beguiled”), Shailene Woodley (“Divergent”), Alexander Skarsgård (“The Legend of Tarzan”), Adam Scott (“Parks and Recreation”), and Zoë Kravitz (“Mad Max: Fury Road”), among others. Witherspoon is well-known for a number of critically acclaimed film roles, including her portrayals of June Carter in “Walk the Line” and Cheryl in “Wild.”
