Kevin Hart Announced as the Host for the 91st Oscars

Kevin Hart Oscars

The long wait is over. Despite changing over producers, many had guessed that Jimmy Kimmel would return to host the Oscars for the third year in a row. As time went on, that felt more and more likely. This year is one of the latest announcements of our host, but late last night we got the official confirmation. Famed standup comedian and one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood, Kevin Hart, will take over the hosting duties. Hart announced the deal via his Instagram, which over 65 million followers.

Hart has undeniably made a mark on Hollywood. His stand up special “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” became the 4th highest grossing comedy special ever at $32 million. That film drew a higher gross than both “Phantom Thread” and “Call Me By Your Name” last year. Hart is a brand unto himself and felt like an inevitable Oscar host. With Hart taking over the Oscars, he might be just what the doctor ordered to boost ratings.

At the same time, Hart has been divisive on occasion. His standup does border on misogynistic at times, which has gotten him into trouble. The same can go for content that was rather homophobic. He has even admitted that he engaged in behavior that can be described as domestic abuse. Despite this, he still draws massive crowds and has starred in many family-friendly films. Last year “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” brought in over $400 million domestically. “The Secret Life of Pets” drew over $300 million and has a sequel due out next year. He’s an industry vet, and that made an inevitable choice to host someday. Let’s see how it goes with what looks to be an exciting Oscar ceremony.
