Lifetime Presents Variety's Power of Women: Frontline Heroes

Lifetime and Variety have partnered on a new one-hour special to honor women on the frontlines of the pandemic. “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts will host “Lifetime Presents Variety’s Power of Women: Frontline Heroes.” The special is set for June 9th at 10PM ET/7PM PT and will simulcast on Lifetime and Facebook, and rebroadcast the following day, June 10th at 8PM ET/PT on LMN.

The special serves to celebrate women as well as raise contributions for the United Nations Foundation/World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Fund. Facebook has pledged $10M in matching funds, and viewers will have the opportunity to add to the donations during the event.

Joining Roberts for the hour are Variety’s 2020 Power of Women honorees: Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, Toni and Grammy winner Patti LuPone, and Grammy nominee Janelle Monáe. Each is being honored not only for their impressive professional achievements, but for their tireless humanitarian efforts. Grammy nominee Andra Day will perform.

Together, these amazing women will help honor the year’s true heroes: the doctors, nurses, teachers, and researchers on the forefront of the crisis. From treating the sick to finding new ways to educate children, women around the world have dedicated themselves to the challenges of helping us through the pandemic.

Claudia Eller, Editor-in-Chief of Variety said:

During this incredibly trying time, we look forward to celebrating the remarkable women on the frontlines of the pandemic who are making the health and safety of others a priority every single day. In the midst of this crisis, the work they are doing is the epitome of selflessness and bravery.

We are also thrilled to honor yet another inspiring group of women within  the industry whose contributions to their respective humanitarian causes are making such a powerful impact on our global community.

Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, Variety Group Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer added:

“Variety’s Power of Women” is one of our signature events. With our founding partner Lifetime, we knew it was crucial this year more than ever to expand our tradition and highlight everyday heroes — the frontline workers who are courageously battling the pandemic. For the first time, a multi-platform global audience will experience our iconic event and join us in paying tribute to the dedication and perseverance of all of these incredibly inspirational women.

Paul Buccieri, President of A+E Networks group said:

Programming with a purpose is part of the fabric of who we are at A+E Networks and we are honored to partner with Variety to showcase the true power of women on Lifetime with this inspiring tribute. With women leading in almost all areas of essential work, this is an incredible opportunity to celebrate the everyday heroes who are doing monumentally impactful feats in this unprecedented time in our lives
