Awards Season may have just ended, but the pieces are coming together for David O. Russell’s next project to be a serious Oscar heavyweight whenever it hits theaters. It was previously reported that Academy Award Winner Christian Bale would be reteaming with the “American Hustle” filmmaker for his latest endeavor, and now (as if that wasn’t exciting enough) things got a little more exciting.
Variety is reporting that recent Oscar Nominee Margot Robbie will be co-starring alongside Christian Bale for Russell’s next film. While plot details are being heavily guarded, Russell will, of course, be handling scripting duties as well.
The Variety report indicates that “Russell had been considering a handful of options in the last few months as he waited for the right cast to come together this project.“
The project will be David O. Russell’s first since 2015’s “Joy” and one can only hope that all that time was spent crafting something spectacular that’s sure to utilize the skillset of his two leads to the fullest.
Robbie has had a remarkable year coming hot off her Oscar Nominated performance in “Bombshell” and melting hearts for her sweet, innocent, and tasteful portrayal of the late Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Currently, she’s kicking ass and lighting up the screen reprising her role as Harley Quinn in the DC’s excellent “Birds of Prey.” Robbie fans can also look forward to her Sundance produced sensation “Promising Young Woman” which features an awards caliber performance from Carey Mulligan.
With two Oscar nominated heavy weights attached to the film, David O. Russell’s next project is already on its way to being one of the most anticipated films the year it comes out.
