Mark Ruffalo Set to Star in Todd Haynes Film ‘Dry Run’ on the DuPont Pollution Scandal

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo may own some of the most GIF-able moments of the last few years in film, but that has not stopped him from being a respected actor. In addition to his fun comedic turns as Bruce Banner/The Hulk for the MCU, he consistently receives awards recognition. His last Oscar nomination came for “Spotlight” in 2015. He also received his third Golden Globe nomination that year for “Infinitely Polar Bear,” showcasing his ability to lead a film. Ruffalo may not always get the credit he deserves as a leading man, but that might change with his project. It appears that Ruffalo has taken on the lead role in the latest project from Todd Haynes. “Dry Run” will be based on the DuPont Chemical pollution scandal.

Todd HaynesAccording to Deadline, Ruffalo has signed on to the new film from Haynes. He will play lawyer Robert Bilott, who became an advocate and fighter for the victims of the case. “Dry Run” is based on a New Yorker article by Nathaniel Rich on Bilott and the case. Participant Media will produce the film from a screenplay from Matthew Carnahan and Mario Correa.

Both Haynes and Ruffalo carry the designation of being overdue for their respective Oscar wins. Ruffalo has found himself in the race for supporting actor on three occasions. A nomination for this film could be his first in lead actor. Haynes was a big Oscar player for “Carol” in 2015, but missed on director and picture. “Carol” went on to receive six other nominations. Haynes has only received a single nomination despite his stature in the industry. The combination of the two could be a powerful duo, and thoughts of an “Erin Brockovich” style film could bring both into the Oscars good graces.
