Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are joining forces once again. This time, the director and star will team up for the adaptation of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” according to a report from Variety.

Imperative Entertainment will produce the film, which is an adaptation of David Grann‘s book of the same name. Eric Roth is set to write the script.

Scorsese said:

When I read David Grann’s book, I immediately started seeing it — the people, the settings, the action — and I knew that I had to make it into a movie. I’m so excited to be working with Eric Roth and reuniting with Leo DiCaprio to bring this truly unsettling American story to the screen.”

“Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and Birth of the FBI” is a non-fiction story of 1920s Oklahoma. In those days, the Osage people were the richest in the world. Their land sat atop a bountiful oil field, making it some of the most prized real estate in North America. After the oil discovery, however, the murders began. The fledgling FBI launched an investigation into the case, which is reportedly the first homicide case for the bureau.

The book was published in 2017, but negotiations for the film rights started in 2016

This is the sixth time Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have worked together. Their other joint credits are “Gangs of New York,” “The Departed,” “The Aviator,” “Shutter Island,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Writer Eric Roth won an Academy Award for adapting “Forrest Gump.” His other works include “Munich” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Scorsese is currently finishing production on his film, “The Irishman,” which will be headed to Netflix in 2019. DiCaprio is filming Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which is due out next summer.

There is no official release date, but production is expected to begin next summer. There is also no word yet on who will join DiCaprio in the cast.
