Martin Scorsese to Recieve Lifetime Achievement Award From Visual Effects Society

Martin Scorsese will be honored by the Visual Effects Society with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor will be given at the society’s 18th annual awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, Calif. on January 29. His much anticipated next film, the mob drama “The Irishman,” will have its world premiere at New York Film Festival next week.

“Martin Scorsese is one of the most influential filmmakers in modern history and has made an indelible mark on filmed entertainment,” said Mike Chambers, VES board chair. “His intuitive vision and fiercely innovative direction has given rise to a new era of storytelling and has made a profound impact on future generations of filmmakers. Martin has given us a rich body of groundbreaking work to aspire to.”

“The Irishman”

Scorsese won an Oscar for his achievement in directing “The Departed.” His string of other Academy Award nominations came with “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Hugo,” “The Aviator,” “Gangs of New York,” “The Age of Innocence,” “Goodfellas,” “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Raging Bull.”

In 2010, he was honored with the Cecille B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes. Scorsese has won at the awards ceremony thrice, for his achievement in directing “Hugo,” “The Departed” and “Gangs of New York.” He is the founder and chairman of The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to sustain film preservation and the promotion of cinema’s historical impact.

Scorsese’s latest work includes the Netflix distributed Bob Dylan documentary, “Rolling Thunder Revue” and his upcoming title, “The Irishman,” a drama starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. The film is set to feature extensive de-aging effects from the VFX department, also poised to be an Oscar contender.

“The Irishman” is produced by STX Entertainment and will be distributed for a limited theatrical run November 1, before hitting Netflix streaming November 27. It premieres at NYFF September 27.
