Marvel wants Ava DuVernay to direct either ‘Black Panther’ or ‘Captain Marvel’

Ava-Duvernay-Marvel-1200x520Go figure, about a week or so ago I was daydreaming and trying to figure out who I’d line up to direct some of Marvel’s upcoming slate (inspired of course by the search for a Spider-Man director). Ironically, I came up with Ava DuVernay as a candidate for Black Panther and Captain Marvel, so it’s kind of amusing that reports now have Marvel courting her to make one of these films. Right now, it’s only being said that the studio wants DuVernay for a “diverse superhero movie”. Honestly, she’d be a welcome addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so whichever project it could be is good in my book. Black Panther already has a well cast lead in Chadwick Boseman, while if she opts for Captain Marvel there would be the opportunity to possibly lead the charge on casting that role. Either way, if DuVernay is to become the first female filmmaker in the MCU, that’s something to celebrate. The rumor has it that Black Panther is the more likely one for the Selma shepherd, but stay tuned. When we have more about DuVernay’s potential jump to the superhero genre, we’ll be sure to bring it to you.
