‘Matrix 4’ In Development with Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, & Lana Wachowski Set to Return

A fourth installment to “The Matrix” franchise is on the rise as news broke that “Matrix 4” is set to be directed by Lana Wachowski, who co-created and directed the original 1999 film with sister Lilly Wachowski. Keanu Reeves (“John Wick”) and Carrie-Anne Moss (“Jessica Jones”) are confirmed to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” said Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros Picture Group chairrman. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” said Wachowski. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

“The Matrix Reloaded”

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Wachowski will be writing, directing and producing the fourth film, an addition to a franchise that has long been regarded as one of the best action film series by its adoring fans. “The Matrix” was produced with an estimated $63 million budget and went on to gross more than $463 million worldwide, igniting a fanbase with its rated-R sci-fi action appeal.

It followed the story of a hacker who uncovers and explores the basis of his reality and those that threaten it. It starred Reeves in one of his most iconic roles. The actor recently impressed in the latest addition to his own popcorn action franchise, “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”

Moss was seen as Jeri Hogarth in the Marvel and Netflix series “Jessica Jones.” She returns to the role of Trinity, a highly skilled computer hacking character who escaped from The Matrix in the original film and teamed up with Reeves’ Neo. The Wachowskis directed its two sequels, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.”

Warner Bros and Village Roadshow are reteaming to produce the project. Wachowski will produce with Grant Hill. Wachowski will co-write the script with Aleksander Hemon (“Sense8”) and David Mitchell.
