“Good Omens” has found its angel and demon. According to Variety, Michael Sheen (“Masters of Sex”) and David Tennant (“Broadchurch”) will star in the Amazon adaptation of Neil Gamian and Terry Pratchett’s novel of the same name; Sheen will portray finicky angel Aziraphale, and Tennant will portray demon Crowley.

The religiously tinged fantasy novel is set in an apocalyptic 2018, as the human race prepares for their final judgement. However, Aziraphale and Crowley would like to avoid Judgement Day, thank you very much, and set off on a mission to find the Antichrist. Will they find him in time, or is humanity doomed?
The tv series will consist of six one hour episodes, with Gaiman acting as show runner and one of “Good Omens’” executive producers, along with Caroline Skinner and Chris Sussman. The series will be made in conjunction from the BBC with Narrativa, a production company run by Rhianna Pratchett, the late author’s daughter. Rob Wilkins and Rod Brown will executive produce for Narrativa.
David Tennant.

Sheen is best known for his recent roles on Showtime’s “Masters of Sex,” “Frost/Nixon,” and “Passengers.” Tennant played the 10th Doctor on BBC’s “Doctor Who,” along with a leading role in the well-received “Broadchurch” and as villain Kilgrave on Netflix’s “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.” You might also recognize him from the “Harry Potter” film series, where he played the terrible Barty Crouch Jr.

The book was Gaiman’s first published novel, which he wrote in collaboration with sci-fi bard Pratchett. The series will be just one of several tv adaptations of Gaiman’s work, along with Fox’s “Lucifer” and Starzs’ runaway hit “American Gods.”
