In a strange turn of events, NBC has announced two very interesting choices to host the Golden Globes. One of the new NBC stars, Andy Samberg, and the recently revived Sandra Oh will co-host the Golden Globes. Both of the performers have won Golden Globes in the past, making them an interesting combination for the awards season. Oh might even find herself nominated this year for “Killing Eve.”

The news for the Golden Globes comes from on the heels of the Oscars announcing Kevin Hart as their host late yesterday. Unlike the Oscars, the Globes have a history of handing the hosting duties over to two performers. The last time they did it was with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who hosted the awards a couple times together.

On the other hand, Oh and Samberg do seem like a bit of an odd couple. Oh has long made her career as a dramatic actress. However, both “Grey’s Anatomy” and now “Killing Eve” did feature some comedic elements. Oh certainly handles the comedy well, and is a very talented performer regardless of drama. Considering her ability to turn on the charisma, she seem like she can surprise many with a strong hosting job.

Samberg makes sense as a new star at NBC. Despite the fact that “Brooklyn Nine Nine” was on Fox for years, it was always an NBC production. After Fox cancelled last spring, NBC quickly moved to pick up the series. While that may have more to do with Michael Schur than anything else, the show has been extremely enjoyable for years. Samberg is also a Saturday Night Live alum, so his ability to jump in and out of the background is clear.

The Golden Globes will air on Jan. 6, 2019 on NBC.
