Netflix TCA News Roundup Includes ‘Maniac’ Premiere, ‘Stranger Things’ and More

There was a lot to come out of TCA in regards to Netflix’s future programming. There were new trailers, series announcements, and return dates. Without further ado, here is a roundup of many of the topics covered at the 2018 TCA’s for Netflix, including the premiere of “Maniac,” starring Emma StoneJonah Hill, and Justin Theroux, as well as the return of “Stranger Things” to Summer 2019.

“ManiacRelease Date and Trailer

Netflix has a prized series coming to the small screen on September 21st, 2018. “Maniac” will star Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Sally Field, and Justin Theroux. The 10 episode is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. The series has some sci-fi elements and takes on a general creepy feel. It’s a limited series, so the considerable talent attached is not too surprising. With Fukunaga directing this may take some very weird, but hopefully good, turns in the process.

“Stranger Things” Returns in Summer 2019

While we already received a teaser for Season 3 of “Stranger Things,” there was little surprise that it won’t release until 2019. The series first premiered in the Summer of 2016, becoming one of the breakout hits of the year. While “Stranger Things 2” released around Halloween, the summer suited the pseudo-blockbuster well, giving it the opportunity to dominate the culture for weeks on end. Now we’ve received official word that the sheer amount of special effects work required will push the show back into Summer. Good job by Netflix to worry about quality rather than hitting a release date. Now the question will be whether or not Netflix wants to put season 3 of “Stranger Things” up against the final season of “Game of Thrones,” or wait until the next year of Emmy eligibility.
