With San Diego Comic Con well underway, comic book fans like myself are excited to see all the content that will surely leak at the event. While comic book movies are often kings of Hall H, Marvel TV was able to gain some traction for their upcoming series “Luke Cage.” The popular hero of Harlem first made his debut on “Jessica Jones” last year. Cage is played by Mike Colter, who is a TV veteran with appearances on “The Good Wife” and “The Following.” Like Krysten Ritter, and David Tenent, Colter’s performance marked another win for Marvel TV, especially for their Netflix series.
With “Luke Cage” set to debut on September 30th, the series has needed to debut more footage. Luckily SDCC is the perfect place to debut a comic book adaptation trailer. With that said, Marvel dropped a new teaser for the “Luke Cage” series. Not only does the footage showcase Colter, but also gives our first look at Mahershala Ali as well.
Considering the political climate we’re in at the moment, the trailer certainly chooses to confront the moment directly. From Cage’s black hoody, to the gunshot filled fight sequence, and even the inclusion of ODB’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” the trailer is unapologetic about it’s inspiration. In case you were wondering, it was definitely intentional. Executive Producer of the show, Cheo Hodari Coker told Variety “the world is ready for a bulletproof black man.”
The show certainly should be one to watch in 2016. “Luke Cage” is the first time an actor of color will headline their own movie/show in the MCU. The cast is also stellar, with Colter and Ali leading the way. The cast is rounded out by solid actors like Alfre Woodard, Simmone Missick, Theo Rossi, and Frankie Faison.
