Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Confirmed for A Second Season

Netflix and Dark Horse Entertainment have revealed their superhero show “The Umbrella Academy” will indeed return for a second season run on the streaming platform.

Created by Jeremy Slater, the action comedy series follows a group of wayward heroic misfits who band together after their adoptive father dies. They soon realize the ins and outs of world saving and justice as their father taught them everything.

As summarized by

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

The series stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, Mary J. Blige, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe, and Kate Walsh.

The live-action comic series is adapted from and created by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way’s written work. His series was eventually published as part of Dark Horse Comics, illustrated by Gabrel Bá, and won an Eisner award. It was then picked up by Netflix for its streaming debut. The first season was released February 15 of this year. The second season will begin production over the summer for its 10-episode season order. Production will film in Toronto, Canada.
