New International Trailer has dropped for ‘Life of Pi’!

Ang Lee’s 3D flick will be screening shortly at the New York Film Festival…

life of pi Picture banner2We’re now less than a week away from Friday’s initial screening of Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’. Clayton and I will be there at the New York Film Festival to be among the very first to take in the Oscar hopeful, but until then the universe/internet has released a new Trailer for the movie to keep everyone interested and excited. This one plays up the emotional aspect of the film, a smart move I think, provided that it doesn’t end up being manipulative, of course. Take a gander after the jump and stay tuned for our reactions next week! Behold the Trailer below…

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

Of the currently perceived contenders for Best Picture, I’m probably most on the fence about this one; it does look very nice, but I find myself uncompelled by the story. I’m reminded heavily of The Black Stallion (a great film that deserves to be better remembered)–the shipwreck scenes in particular seem very close to that film indeed.

It just seems, from the trailer at least, that this is a lushly made film without a firm core. I could be wrong (I should note I’ve never read the book), but I’m definitely anxious to see what the reviews will be like.
