New Look at Keira Knightley in ‘Anna Karenina’

Director Joe Wright previously worked with Keira Knightley on Atonement (2007) and is now re-teaming with the Oscar nominated actress (Pride and Prejudice; 2005) to remake Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. The film has been made multiple times, the most memorable version being Clarence Brown’s 1935 movie starring the legendary Greta Garbo. Another screen legend, Vivien Leigh, later played the titular Tolstoy heroine in a 1948 version. Will Ms. Knightley live up to her predecessors in the dramatic role? Could she do something no other actress has done and receive an Oscar nomination for her performance? At the moment, I think her odds are great. She’s becoming one hell of an actress reaching the prime of her career. The time seems right, and the role seems baity enough. And just look how lovely she is above (and don’t think for a second that is not a factor). Anna Karenina opens November 9th.

Lover of all things film and Oscar. Fantasy sports’ equivalent of George Steinbrenner. Your very own Han Solo, making friends all over the movie-loving galaxy in spite of himself. When he’s not ranking just about everything or dominating boardgames, Mark is breaking down the Oscar race 24/7 with Rain Man-like stats and knowledge. In his downtime, you can find him commiserating with other Northeast Ohio sports fans because a hero isn’t complete without a little heartbreak. If Game of Thrones, Lost, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Survivor are your style, then congratulations, you have something in common with this inglourious basterd.
