New Trailer and Photos for Abel Ferrara’s “Welcome To New York”

“Powerful,” says Bernardo Bertolucci. “Flat-out bonkers,” writes Indiewire’s Eric Kohn. “[A] fraught study of addiction, narcissism and the lava flow of capitalist privilege,” writes Variety’s Scott Foundas. If you haven’t yet had your fill of slick excess and greed after last year’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Abel Ferrara‘s “Welcome to New York” looks sure to be another raucous ride through the depths of well-moneyed depravity, following a heightened, fictional account of New York v. Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Starring Gerard Depardieu and Jacqueline Bisset as a Strauss-Kahn-like figure and his wife (with the characters under changed names), “Welcome to New York” follows the events leading up to and after Strau- *ahem* Mr. Devereaux’s (Depardieu) arrest and the resulting plastered-on-newspapers scandal. For those of you who don’t care about the real-life context or international politics, here’s the film’s enticing IMDb synopsis: “Mr. Devereaux is a powerful man. A man who handles billions of dollars every day. A man who controls the economic fate of nations. A man driven by a frenzied and unbridled sexual hunger. A man who dreamed of saving the world and who cannot save himself. A terrified man. A lost man.”

“Welcome to New York” made its debut out of competition at Cannes and has already hit VOD in France, with roughly 100,000 views in eight days. It will be hitting the U.K. on August 8th, though has yet to announce a U.S. release date. As we wait with baited breath for the film to grace our shores, check out the latest U.K. trailer and press images below.
