BAFTA Award nominee Noomi Rapace (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”), Charlie Plummer (“All the Money in the World“) and Sophia Lillis (“It,” “It: Chapter Two”) have all been cast in the upcoming thriller “The Thicket,” joining Emmy Award winner Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) in the film.
Based on the award winning novel by Joe R. Lansdale, The Hollywood Reporter reports that the film will be introduced to buyers at the EFM in Berlin as the film seeks international distribution partners. CAA Media Finance and ICM Partners will co-represent domestic rights on the film.
A long time collaborator of Martin Scorsese’s, Gianni Nunnari (“Shutter Island,” “The Departed”) will co-produce the film, along with David Ginsberg, Matt Hookings, Shannon Gaulding, Andre L III and Dinklage himself.
Rapace shot to fame in 2011 with the Swedish film “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and its subsequent sequels as part of the Millennium series. Lillis meanwhile, is best known for her role as Beverly Marsh in the “It” franchise, as well as a lead role in last year’s mystery comedy “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase”
Since “Game of Thrones” wrapped up, Dinklage finds himself available for new and exciting projects and this is no doubt one of them. He recently had a minor role in “Avengers: Infinity War” and played a part in Martin McDonagh’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” where he starred alongside Academy Award winners Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell.
The Hollywood Reporter included this quote in the breaking of the casting news:
“We are thrilled to bring this strong commercial project with an amazing ensemble cast to Berlin,” said O’Shea of the Exchange. “Rapace and Dinklage are global stars in their own right, but to also have up and coming talent as Lillis and Plummer in The Thicket makes the project truly exciting.”
Lansdale’s novel tells the story of a young boy, Jack, who is caught up in tragedy when his grandad is murdered and sister kidnapped. He must enlist the help of a bounty hunter named Shorty, a grave-digging alcoholic son of an ex-slave and Jimmie Sue, a street-smart woman-for-hire. Plummer is set to play young Jack, with Dinklage as the crafty bounty hunter, Lillis as the kidnapped sister and Rapace as Cut Throat Bill, the dangerous killer who has kidnapped Jack’s sister in the first place.
The film has also found its screenwriter and director. Chris Kelley will adapt the book, whilst British director and Emmy Award nominee Elliott Lester (“Nightingale”) will direct the film.
Expect news in the coming weeks as the film seeks international distributors and any dates on when production will begin.
