Oscars: 25 Animated Films Submitted to the Animated Feature Branch; 5 Nominees Likely

The animated feature race has been a bit underwhelming in 2018. While Disney and Pixar both seem locked to have a contender in the race, the rest of the field has fluctuated in past few months. Films like “Isle of Dogs” received good, but not great reviews. “Teen Titans Go! to the Movies” and “Smallfoot” seem like they’re going to need a strong push to get into the race. “Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse” continues to build steam as a potential dark horse. GKIDS has its slate in place and seems ready to make a push. With the stage set, the Academy officially announced the features that have been submitted for Oscar. With 25 animated films in the race, we will almost certainly have 5 nominees (unless 10 of the films get disqualified). The full list of the animated films to contend can be found below.

After the utterly embarrassing nominations from last year (even with some of the best animated movies of the decade being eligible) I don’t have much hope for this category this year. Mirai might get nominated because of GKIDS but they’ll at least be three bad movies nominated and most likely four.

Anyway, the most likely nominations are:
Incredibles 2
Isle of Dogs
Wreck it Ralph 2

The Grinch
Early Man
Lu over the wall
Ruban Brandt
