Paramount will distribute Richard Linklater’s baseball themed follow up to ‘Boyhood’

Richard Linklater

richard.linklater.insideI think we can all agree that Richard Linklater more or less should be allowed to do as he pleases with his next project now that Boyhood has proven to be among his finest works to date. Especially considering that he’s also coming off of Bernie and Before Midnight as his prior two films, he’s pretty much golden. As such, any hiccups that might have previously prevented him from going ahead and shooting his spiritual cousin/sequel to Dazed and Confused shouldn’t be an issue anymore. In fact, that’s the case as a report has Paramount stepping up to distribute That’s What I’m Talking About, Linklater’s college set and baseball centric follow up. It’s set in the 80’s and will be based on his own experiences, so another realistic outing should be in the cards. I’m completely down for this, and knowing that Megan Ellison and Annapurna Pictures are involved as well just further gives me fuel, as it’s probable that Linklater will be left alone to make the film he desires. We’ll probably see the movie within the next year or two, so that’s a plus as well. When we know more about this one we’ll certainly bring it to you, but I have to imagine that for many of you That’s What I’m Talking About is high up on your anticipated upcoming movies list. It’s on mine, I know that…

He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
