Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd is in closing talks to board Jason Reitman‘s “Ghostbusters” reboot. Reported exclusively by Variety, the “Ant-Man and The Wasp” star is said to join the cast in the next chapter reimagining of the classic film Reitman’s father produced and directed. Sources tell Variety Rudd is casted to play the role of a teacher, which seems fitting for the actor.

From the Variety exclusive:

“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe,” said Jason Reitman.

Sony wouldn’t comment on plot details, but insiders tell Variety the story will be an extension of the original “Ghostbusters” and focus on a single mom and her family, with Coon playing the mom and Wolfhard playing her son. It’s unknown how exactly it connects to the original Ghostbusters series. Sigourney Weaver is also rumored to return as Dana Barrett.

Reitman’s reboot already incudes a well rounded cast with Carrie Coon, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, “Stranger Things”‘s Finn Wolfhard and “Gifted”‘s McKenna Grace. Ivan Reitman is set to produce the sequel. The original “Ghostbusters” director also helped produce the franchise’s 2016 rehash directed by Paul Feig, starring Kate McKinnon, Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy.

Jason Reitman is an Academy Award nominated filmmaker, whose nodded work includes directing “Juno” and “Up in the Air.” He recently wrote and directed “Tully” and the Hugh Jackman-starring political drama “The Front Runner.” He pens the new “Ghostbusters” script with Gil Kenan, who writes and directs the upcoming Netflix original family film, “A Boy Called Christmas.”

The currently untitled “Ghostbusters” reboot is produced by The Montecito Picture Company, Ghostcorps and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Columbia Pictures will be distributing the film, which is set for a summer 2020 release date. More developments to follow!
