Paul Rudd to Star and Produce a Netflix Comedy Series ‘Living With Yourself’

Paul Rudd

One of the most unusual actors to become a big star in the last two decades is Paul Rudd. While Rudd first caught real traction in the Judd Apatow comedies, he’s always been open to playing down or playing up depending on the project. Rudd has proven to be extremely versatile, guest starring on “Parks and Recreation” one year, only to headline a Marvel film the next. This summer, he headlined “The Ant-Man and the Wasp” to $198 million domestic box office. Now he’s setting his sights on Netflix.

According to Deadline, Rudd is going both executive produce and star in an upcoming Netflix series. The series, to be titled “Living With Yourself” will have a short, 8 episode season. The series comes from Timothy Greenberg, a writer for “The Daily Show” during the Jon Stewart years. Perhaps most exciting is that Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are set to direct. Dayton and Faris helmed Oscar Best Picture nominee “Little Miss Sunshine” in 2006, and “The Battle of the Sexes” last year.

The high concept series follows Rudd in two roles. One of his characters struggles in his day-to-day life. He undergoes a new treatment that will make him a “better person.” He then discovers that he’s actually been replaced by this new version of himself, forcing him to reflect on how he makes his life worse.

The series had apparently been given the go-ahead from AMC/IFC last year, but never moved forward. With Rudd attached to star, it likely has more clout this time around. The series could stand to make real headway with Netflix. Rudd’s talented enough to play two characters. If the writing lives up to the concept, this could be a big acting play for the actor. The Emmys may even come calling.
