In honor of legendary “Saturday Night Live” performer Dana Carvey‘s birthday (which was yesterday) and the upcoming release of “The King of Staten Island“ starring Pete Davidson, we thought now would be an appropriate time to ask which films starring past and present SNL cast members were the best. There are MANY films that fit into this criteria, but for this poll’s sake, we will only list 10.
The earliest film that could probably fit these criteria is “National Lampoon’s Animal House,” from 1978. Since then, there have been many famous (and infamous) films starring SNL alums. Most notably, a few stars have taken up the majority of these. The most successful SNL-to-big screen transitions have come from men like Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, and Adam Sandler, and women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, and Molly Shannon. Many SNL alums have been Oscar-nominated, including Murphy, Murray, Wiig, Dan Aykroyd, Randy Quaid, Joan Cusack, Michael McKean, and Robert Downey, Jr.
After narrowing down the long list to 10, it is up to you to choose! And if none of the films listed are your favorite, then “other” is an option and you can feel free to comment below!
You can visit each film’s individual Circuit Movie pages to find out more information about the films, including release dates, cast and crew, and official images from the movies.
