Predictions Update! First Look at the Golden Globes and What Stars Will Rule the HFPA

Golden Globe Awards

With the release of the newest set of Oscar Predictions this week, along with the twenty contenders from the first half of the year, it’s a good time to predict the beat of the season with the major guilds.  Weekly, you’ll be getting updated predictions for not only the Academy Awards, but for the Golden Globes, SAG, and the Critics Choice awards.

When you’re guessing the biggest award show of the year, it’s a best practice to take a look at the road that will lead to those thoughts.  How many pundits had Marcia Gay Harden’s performance in “Pollock” to be nominated, let alone win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar without scoring a Golden Globe or SAG nomination before it?  Can you see Alan Arkin’s performance in “Little Miss Sunshine” winning without a Globe nod but sneaking with SAG, leading Eddie Murphy to win both awards but lose in the end?

I’ll be performing the formula and sizing them up with their respective categories.  Can they resist their past love with Renee Zellweger and nominate her for “Bridge Jones’ Baby” once again?  Will “Loving” go the way of “Capote” or “Milk,” just landing one acting nod, before picking up steam by the end of the season?  Is the winner of the Best Picture (Drama) set up to lose the Oscar like years before?  All good questions.

Click through the gallery and see what the HFPA could present us in December.

You don’t think they will throw a bone to Ryan Reynolds, or the film itself, for Deadpool in the comedy categories?

I’m feeling more Birth of a Nation love. In my heart of hearts, I thought Sing Street might find some sanction in Best Comedy or Musical, but I don’t know if I’m biased. I’m also starting to feel some American Pastoral love, just a hunch.
