The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall. It also played at the Zurich Film Festival, New Orleans, and Annapolis. The biopic was produced by Acacia Filmed Entertainment and Castle Rock. Electric Entertainment recently bought the distribution rights. Electric Entertainment is best known for the TNT original series “Leverage” and “The Librarians.” They also distributed the widely panned “The Book of Love,” which was released earlier this year.
Directed by Rob Reiner, the film follows Johnson from his days as Speaker of the House, through his ascension to the presidency in 1963. Reiner received an Academy Award nomination for the 1992 film “A Few Good Men.” “LBJ” will be his second political drama released in 2017. Also due out this year is the film “Shock and Awe,” about the planning of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
With a combined three Academy Award nominations, “LBJ” stars Woody Harrelson in the title role and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson. The film also stars Jeffrey Donovan, Bill Pullman, C. Thomas Howell, and Richard Jenkins.
