Saoirse Ronan Joins Wes Anderson Film ‘The French Dispatch’

Saoirse Ronan continues to build one of the most impressive resumes in Hollywood. She earned her first Oscar nomination at the age of 13 for “Atonement,” and instantly became a go-to actress. She reemerged with Oscar for her role in “Brooklyn,” an immigrant story about a girl in the 1950s. With “Lady Bird” and “Mary Queen of Scots” over the past two years, it is clear that Saoirse is here to stay. She’s now joining up with Wes Anderson for the second time, following up her fun performance in “The Grand Budapest Hotel” with a role in “The French Dispatch.”

According to Indiewire, Ronan let the announcement slip during a Q&A for “Mary Queen of Scots” last week. The casting adds another all-star to the usually packed Anderson ensembles. She joins Bill Murray, Frances McDormandTilda SwintonJeffrey Wright, and Timothée Chalamet in the film. Most of those actors have worked with Anderson before, Wright and Chalamet excluded. Chalamet’s casting will be exciting for many, as it will be their third collaboration already. After playing one of Ronan’s boyfriends in “Lady Bird,” Chalamet will also star in “Little Women” for Greta Gerwig in 2019.

Ronan’s role in the film has not been confirmed, but it likely will be integral to the plot. After all, her character was one of the major supporting pieces of “Grand Budapest Hotel” a few years ago. It is likely that Anderson will want to get the most out of Ronan and her ever-rising star power. Besides, she has proven to be the perfect kind of Anderson player, willing to go quirky and weird but still proving her charm. Hopefully, the talented actress is not buried in the large ensemble, and Ronan can continue her upward climb.
