Sequel to the indie flick ‘Monsters’ is gearing up

The no budget sci-fi tale could be the start of a franchise…

monsters poster02About 2 years ago, one of the better independent films that I saw was Gareth Edwards’ no budget alien film ‘Monsters’. Apparently the international box office/home video numbers have been respectable for the flick, since The Playlist is reporting here that a sequel is in the cards and has a writer and director on board. Edwards will only be executive producing, as he’s a bit busy with a reboot of ‘Godzilla’, but the somewhat untested team of scribe Jay Basu and director Tom Green are tackling this project. It’s currently going to be called ‘Monsters: The Dark Continent’, and we could see this one come out at some point in the next year or so. After the jump I’ll share the trailer for the original (not sure how many of you actually saw the movie), but I’m curious about this one…

Here’s the trailer for ‘Monsters’:

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
