‘Shoplifters’ Wins Best Foreign Language Film at Palm Springs Film Festival

The Palm Springs International Film Festival, which ends tomorrow, announced a few select jury prizes yesterday. However, “Shoplifters” winning the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Foreign Language Film was chief among them. As it turns out, “Roma” isn’t winning every Foreign Language Film prize out there.

After winning the Palme D’Or award at Cannes, “Shoplifters” got a much needed boost. Also, it emerged victorious on a night devoted to foreign language cinema. Other wins include Joanna Kulig winning the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Actress in a Foreign Language Film for “Cold War.” Plus, Marcello Fonte achieved the Best Actor in a Foreign Language Film prize for “Dogman.”

Although “Dogman” was omitted from the Oscar shortlist for Best Foreign Language Film, Fonte still hasn’t gone unnoticed. Along with the European Film Award for Best Actor, he can add this award to his mantle.
