spirit-awards-004_a2bd10ff4598b3911386f539d921a79e.nbcnews-ux-2880-1000As is the tradition, the day before the Oscars, Film Independent gave our their Independent Spirit Awards. In what was perhaps a bit of a surprise, Tom McCarthy‘s Spotlight was the night’s big victor. The movie took home every prize it was nominated for, including Best Feature, beating back Todd HaynesCarol, among others. The film had previously been announced as the winner of the Robert Altman Award, so it was quite the evening for Spotlight. Below you can see all of the winners, which included Abraham Attah in Best Male Lead for Beasts of No Nation, as well as Brie Larson in Best Female Lead for Room, along with Mya Taylor becoming the first transgender winner, taking Best Supporting Female for Tangerine. Congrats to them all!
