In another interesting twist of the season, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is nominated for a Screenwriter Choice Award while films such as “Spotlight,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “Room” and more are not.

The Screenwriter Choice Awards nominations were announced Friday. The nominees for feature films are “Bridge of Spies,” “Ex Machina,” “Inside Out,” “The Big Short,” “The Martian” and the aforementioned “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

This marks the first time “Star Wars” is seeing love for its screenplay. Although it’s been nominated for several below-the-line categories at various awards shows, it has yet to be nominated for a screenwriting accolade.

“Spotlight,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “Room,” “Carol,” “Brooklyn” (all of which are nominated for Oscars) were left off the list.

Last year’s winners included “Birdman” for Best Original Screenplay and “Gone Girl” in the Best Adapted category.

The awards, which are on their 11th year, will be held Feb. 11. To see the full list of nominees, including those in television, see below.
