Boutella joins Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, who were already set to star.
“Fahrenheit 451” was a dystopian novel by Ray Bradbury in which all books are banned in a future America. Any books that are discovered are burned by “firemen,” along with any other possessions the owner has. The title refers to the temperature at which book paper catches fire and burns.
Jordan will play fireman Montag, who has a crisis of conscience and ends up at odds with his superior and mentor Beatty, played by Michael Shannon.
Boutella plays Clarisse. Her character is described as an informant who ends up caught in the middle between Montag and Beatty. In the novel, Clarisse is Montag’s free-spirited, teen-aged, next door neighbor.
Boutella has been working steadily since her breakthrough role as Samuel L. Jackson’s henchwoman in “Kingsman: Secret Service.” She appeared in “Star Trek Beyond” opposite Chris Pine. This week she will star as “The Mummy” and later this summer she will be in “Atomic Blonde” with Charlize Theron.
Ramin Bahrani is writing and directing this adaption. He previously scripted and directed the film “99 Homes,” also starring Michael Shannon.
