**Warning: This article may contain mild spoilers for “The Walking Dead” season 8.**

Fans of “The Walking Dead” can rest a little easier in this off season.

Lauren Cohan confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she will be returning for the ninth season this fall.

There was something of a question mark hanging over Cohan’s fate when she signed onto the pilot for the new ABC series “Whiskey Cavalier.” Cohan agreed to that series without having a finalized contract for “TWD,” leaving many to suspect Maggie wouldn’t survive season 8’s All Out War.

That ABC series pilot is not picked up yet, and may be months away from production, even if it does get an order. The next season of “TWD” begins filming this summer. It may be possible that Cohan can do both series, depending on scheduling.

Perhaps it was a strategic move by “The Walking Dead” showrunners, but if you’ve seen the season 8 finale, you know it would be almost impossible to continue into season 9 now without Maggie. And as Cohan herself told EW, “I’m going back. There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”

Cohan’s reasons for holding out on her contract likely came down to money, as most contract negotiations do. Rumors circulated for months that she was demanding equal pay with Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. There is no word yet on if she got that kind of deal, but it would make sense for them to give it to her, when looking at the direction the show seems to be headed.

Cohan spoke with EW Tuesday night in Las Vegas at CinemaCon. She was there promoting her upcoming film “Mile 22,” due out this summer. She stars opposite Mark Wahlberg, John Malcovich, and Ronda Rousey. Most of her work has been in television, but she has been taking more steps toward the big screen. Two years ago, she appeared in the horror film “The Boy,” and then last year in the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me.”

As for her work on “The Walking Dead,” it is something of a relief to see her stick around awhile longer. But, of course, there is one burning question fans hope will be answered very soon. Is Maggie ever going to have that baby?
