The Weinstein Company will screen The Master at Cannes, plus clips from Django Unchained!

It’s good to be at the Cannes Film Festival for many reasons, but at the top of the list right now has got to be the fact that right about as you’re reading this (or slightly before/after, depending) The Weinstein Company is showing footage from three of their biggest 2012 releases, according to The Playlist here. They’ve got bits of ‘Django Unchained’, and ‘The Silver Linings Playbook’ to show off, along with a full screening of ‘The Master’. After the jump I’ll get into what this means for the films, but consider me jealous of those in France (or at least more so than usual) right now…

Holding essentially a sneak preview of Paul Thomas Anderson’s flick ‘The Master’ could certainly be considered a sign that Harvey Weinstein is expecting a strong awards play from the flick. As for the other two, Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti western has had to battle some bad buzz in the past few weeks, so this could right that ship, and as for David O. Russell’s film…well, this should just remind people that it exists. Regardless, these are three very intriguing films and the Weinsteins will certainly be campaigning hard for them come the fall/winter. Awards season is going to be an exciting one, mark my words!
