It’s no secret COVID-19 or the coronavirus has taken its toll on the entertainment industry. The Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida was canceled followed by EON and MGM pushing back the release date of the 25th James Bond film “No Time To Die.” Last week also saw the mayor of Austin Texas cancel South by Southwest laying a crushing blow to Austin’s economy. Since then, Dave Bautista‘s family spy film “My Spy” has seen its release date pushed back, the massive video game conference E3 announced it’s cancellation earlier today, movie theaters across Italy have shut down, and just now, Tom Hanks, America’s Dad, revealed some devastating news.

Posting directly to his Instagram, actor and global icon Tom Hanks announced that he and his wife/actress Rita Wilson have tested positive for COVID-19. The two 63-year-old actors were in Australia where production on Warner Bros. and Baz Luhrmann‘s Elvis Presley biopic was taking place in which Hanks plays Presley’s manager. Hanks and Wilson are the first celebrities (that we know of) to be diagnosed. While the couple appears to be in good spirits, Hanks stated that the two would be following protocol and submit to testing and isolation as long as needed.

Hanks’ full statement is as follows:

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

We’ll keep the world posted and updated.

Take care of yourselves!”

According to Variety, shortly after Hanks posted to social media, Warner Bros. released a statement regarding the status of the film’s production.

“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19. We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.”
