leonardo-decaprio-tom-hardyHere’s a project that probably is going to get discussed a lot between now and it’s likely 2015 release date. After Birdman, Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s next film is going to be The Revenant (also to be shot by DP Emmanuel Lubezki), with a compelling log line (from IMDb) that reads:

A man of many adventures, Hugh Glass goes West in 1822 in the employ of Captain Andrew Henry to do some profitable fur trapping. He is attacked by a bear, and badly injured. Miraculously, he survives, but the terrain makes it impossible to carry him back. Henry tries, but eventually hires two mercenaries to simply stand watch and bury him. They abandon Glass, alone and defenseless, but unfortunately for them, he recovers. He resolves to hunt down the men who abandoned him“.

Leonardo DiCaprio is already set to play the main character, but now Tom Hardy has been added to the cast as well, reuniting the Inception costars. Sounds like awards bait to me. You can see a bit more below, but stay tuned for more once this one gets underway at some point later this year. The Revenant could be one to be reckoned with.

Here’s the story from The Wrap:

Tom Hardy is set to join Leonardo DiCaprio in New Regency’s “The Revenant.”

Alejandro González Iñárritu is directing the film, which will be shot by Emmanuel Lubezki (“Gravity”). Iñárritu and Mark L. Smith wrote the script, which is based on Michael Punke’s novel “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge.”

Will Poulter is in negotiations to co-star in the movie, which RatPac is co-financing with New Regency

Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Keith Redmon and David Kanter will produce the film along with Iñárritu, Arnon Milchan and James Skotchdopole, while Paul Green, Brett Ratner and James Packer will executive produce.

Production will start September 22 with New Regency planning fall 2015 release.

Story follows a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and then robbed. When he survives against all odds, he sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on his betrayers in this captivating and inspiring story.

Hardy is represented by CAA, United Agents and attorney Jason Sloane.

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
